Importance of Water Quality

Ensuring high water quality is vital for health and safety in various applications, from drinking water systems to agricultural use. Contaminated water can harbor harmful microorganisms, biofilms, and chemical residues, posing health risks.

Electrolysis and HOCl Production

Electrolysis is a process that splits water into oxygen and hydrogen gases using electricity. When applied to a salt solution, it produces hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a powerful disinfectant. This method is sustainable, producing no harmful by-products.

Applications and Case Study of HOCl

HOCl is used to ensure safe drinking water, prevent biofilm formation in irrigation systems, and maintain clean industrial water systems. For example, a study on a poultry farm showed that the Watter System effectively removed biofilms, bacteria, and viruses in drinking water lines, leading to healthier livestock and reduced medical costs.

Water Sampling and Analysis for Drinking Water and Technical Water

We offer professional water sampling for drinking water as well as technical water. We work together with certified and accredited laboratories to ensure the highest quality and reliability.

Our Service at a Glance

  • Complete analyses (full analyses) – Comprehensive testing of all relevant parameters in accordance with the Drinking Water Ordinance. Particularly suitable for new buildings, property sales or as legal proof for landlords.
  • Individual consultation – After sampling, we advise you comprehensively on the analysis results and possible measures. If action is required, we support you with the remediation and optimisation of your drinking water systems.
  • All-round service – We handle the entire process – from sampling and analysis through to expert consultation and the implementation of remediation measures.

Rely on our many years of experience to ensure the water quality in your buildings and to comply with legal requirements.

Types of Water Analysis

Depending on the objective, analyses are divided into different categories:

1. Microbiological and Hygienic Analysis

  • Focus: Detection of pathogens
  • Parameters: Coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli (E. coli), enterococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Legionella
  • Application: Monitoring of hot water systems (Legionella testing), private household wells

2. Chemical-Physical Analysis

  • Focus: Testing for minerals, nutrients and contaminants
  • Parameters:
    • Physical: pH value, electrical conductivity, turbidity, temperature
    • Chemical / nutrients: nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, sulphate, chloride
    • Heavy metals / trace elements: lead, copper, nickel, iron, manganese, uranium, arsenic

3. Specific Analyses & Special Investigations

  • Water hardness: Determination of calcium and magnesium content, important for household appliances and detergents
  • Complete analyses: All parameters in accordance with the Drinking Water Ordinance in accredited laboratories, e.g. for new buildings or property sales
  • Household well testing: Tests for nitrate contamination from fertilisation, especially for private wells
  • Rapid tests: Test strips for pH, nitrate and hardness – quick orientation, but less accurate

Would you like to have water tested from your tap or from a private well? Do you need an analysis of water hardness for household appliances, or a health check for bacteria and contaminants?

Legal Limit Values under the Austrian Drinking Water Ordinance (TWV)

The TWV sets strict limit values for contaminants, heavy metals and microorganisms in order to protect your health. Here are the most important parameters:

CategoryParameterLimit value
Heavy metals & contaminantsLeadmax. 5 µg/l
Heavy metals & contaminantsCoppermax. 2.0 mg/l
Heavy metals & contaminantsNickelmax. 20 µg/l
Heavy metals & contaminantsUraniummax. 15 µg/l
Heavy metals & contaminantsPFAS (sum PFAS-20)max. 0.10 µg/l
Chemical (e.g. from agriculture)Nitratemax. 50 mg/l
Chemical (e.g. from agriculture)Nitritemax. 0.10 mg/l (waterworks), 0.50 mg/l (distribution network)
MicrobiologicalGerms (e.g. E. coli, enterococci, coliform bacteria)0 detected in 100 ml – no pathogenic germs permitted
Indicator valueIronmax. 0.2 mg/l
Indicator valueManganesemax. 0.05 mg/l
